Fin screws with washers in the original shape and material. This is the well known solution with medium sized washers, with outer diameter 14mm, including a robust polyurethane rubber washer, which do not fall of - but fits nice and tightly around the M6 steel screw, keeping the steel washer in place and protects your board (unlike hard nylon-washers some surf-shops offer, which fall of the screws, and does not protect your board well either).
Steel washer and screw is in marine grade A4 stainless steel, and the drive is Phillips PH3, which most windsurfers already have a screwdriver for in their surf bag.
Fin screws comes in various length, so make sure to select the right length, before you torque the screw, to avoid damaging your board or fin.. Measure if you don’t know which length you need, but a simplified guide follows here:
- Tuttle boxes traditionally uses 35mm, but some boards in the later years have longer screws or even different length for front and rear.
- Deep Tuttle boxes before the foil introduction traditionally used 35mm, but Foil-Ready Deep Tuttle boxes now usually uses 45mm, 50mm or 60mm.
- Powerbox usually uses 50mm.
